The last beach before the State Highway 30 starts winding around the north part of the island is DT Fleming Beach Park. Named the best beach in America in 2006, DT Fleming Beach has everything. The beach is about a half-mile long and the destination of thousands and thousands of travelers a year. In the summer, the waters are peaceful, warm and inviting. In the winter though, the surf is only really inviting to the surfers that travel here from all around the world. Swells from the north generate huge waves and breaks that have perfect shape. Because the surf can get turbulent and large, there is a lifeguard tower equipped with jet ski and rescue equipment. Don’t let the hype deter you though; DT Fleming Beach is one of most family friendly beaches as well. When the waves are small, some of the best bodysurfing, swimming and snorkeling can be found here.
There is also a large lawn surrounded by trees, with picnic tables and barbeques that are just up off the sand. Showers and restrooms are available and the parking lot is large and just off of Highway 30. The amenities make for a perfect place to have a safe and comfortable beach day, but there’s more.
The Ritz Carlton has a beach restaurant located right on the beach, where diners can enjoy a wonderful meal and a wonderful view of the beach, ocean and the Island of Molokai. From the restaurant, the Kapalua Hiking Trail runs all the way south to Kapalua Beach, about two miles. To the north, Honolua Bay.
To get to DT Fleming Beach Park, take Highway 30 north past Kapalua and the Ritz Carlton Hotel. On the left will be an entrance to the park and a driveway down to the parking lot.
